Mike Gravel has joined the Libertarian Party and is running for the party nomination. Recently, he participated in the Libertarian presidential debates in Kansas City, Missouri on April 5. You can watch the full debate in the links below:

On the Libertarian Party website, there is a program called Liberty Decides ‘08 which is designed to raise funds for ballot access in the general election and simultaneously promote candidates for the nomination leading up to the national convention. I recommend a donation of $50 to the program under Gravel’s name.
Why? Here are a couple of reasons:
a) It will help to elevate his status within the party. Gravel already has name recognition; however, the nomination will be decided by the delegates at the national convention. An internal party presence is essential to his success.
b) Although the money will not go directly to his campaign in the run leading up to the nomination, I think it is important for his supporters to a show some commitment towards gaining ballot access in the general election. Think of this as a show of support for Gravel’s Libertarian run and a small chip-in to help gain ballot access. Remember that this is a team effort to fight the corrupt two-party system and ballot access is one of the major obstacles for a third-party run.
Goals:
I just made a $50 donation under Gravel’s name, which would put him at $405 given the current statistics. Here’s what we need to move up in standing:
8 pledges passes Mary Ruwart.
40 pledges passes Christine Smith.
92 pledges qualifies for the program.
Please comment below when you have donated to the program. (The site can be slow to update on the fundraising progress, so commenting can help to serve as a faster indicator of reaching the above benchmarks.) As the zeroth period of the 50-20 Plan ends, I think this would be a great way to initiate the 50-20 Plan by showing gratitude to the Libertarian Party for their ballot access efforts and their welcoming of Mike Gravel into the party.
Let’s aim for 8 pledges now in the comments to kick this off!
